1/7/2023 0 Comments Glastonbury tor at nightOne review on TripAdvisor simply reads: "Wonderful and magical place with amazing energy." It is believed by some that the Tor itself holds powers beyond our comprehension, which may have played a part in making it rain in Australia during a recent prayer session. With all of this history (and a bit of mythology added in for good measure) many that take the trek up Glastonbury Tor say that the place is surrounded with feelings of magic and other-worldliness. In addition to these exciting finds, there are also said to be links to King Arthur at The Tor, since the alleged discovery of his and Queen Guinevere's neatly labelled coffins in 1191. The original wooden church was destroyed by an earthquake in 1275. Several buildings which were constructed on the summit during the Saxon and Medieval periods are believed to be an early church and monks' hermitage. There have been artefacts dating back to the Iron Age and Roman eras, as well as the head of a wheel cross dating from the 10th or 11th century. Not only can you visit St Michael's Church tower when you reach the top, but you will also be stood on ground where many archaeological discoveries have been excavated. It's a pretty steep climb that's definitely not for the faint-hearted, but never fear, you get to spend your time at the top recovering among glorious views stretching for miles. It's hard to hide the fact that if you want to get to the top of the Tor, you're going to have to work for it. TripAdvisor review of Glastonbury Tor - "It's a big hill" (Image: TripAdvisor) 1.
